I am one of the many Filipino people who are looking forward to 2010. Yet, I am one of those few who have set eyes to a more personal goal, that is, because I am getting married on January. On the a broader picture, I am also with the majority who are eyeing on that same year because of one thing: the National Elections.
So what is the fuss about the upcoming elections? For me, I see shades of pink, green, black, and red. Colorful eh? I remembered Iron Chef for the moment… And I wonder what does each of the presidentiables are cooking for us now?

Politics have become some sort of a Norm here in the Philippines. The way its culture and system seemed became more of a “standard”. I hope you are not expecting a positive description here, for corruption and a bad dose of “dirty politics” are what comprises this “Norm Label” I am talking about. I am a mere observing citizen here, and it makes me sick, sad, and mad at the same time knowing that in the at least 22years since I was born in this country until now, we have the same government, only different people.
I know I need not elaborate on these sickening aspects in the current governement system, it is already widespread in news in television, radio, internet in almost every Filipino household. Written in print in newspapers. Topics of many commuters in train stations – morning, afternoon, evening. It is rampant, open, almost breathed by every Filipino not just here, but in almost all parts of the world.
So it’s the upcoming elections. I am quite excited about it, just by seeing the potential contenders and hearing a bit of their platforms. In my lifetime, its now that I’ve seen quite a lot of “fresh” faces and their mix is quite interesting – old, not so old, and young at the very least. I am sure Lito Camo will have a blooming career soon with all of his catchy songs. There will be added commercials, with tv executives gaining fat pockets once more. We are in crisis now huh?
Typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng, Kedan… They all swept away our feets (with their floods). Will the current devastated state of ours now see a new hope from somebody who will emerge as the new president in a few months now? With what the crisis we’ve just faced, God indeed purges the Filipino intellect to judge accordingly and decide wisely on choosing the people who will have to lead us through all these tough times. Also, crisis might have “purified” already the hearts of these politicians so that they may see the true responsibility they are vying for.
I guess I am convinced now that I’ll cast my votes next elections. I wouldn’t let the opportunity to create change just slip off my hands just because of what seemed to be “standard political system”. And of course, because I wouldn’t want to miss out to be part of the history, and of every history that Filipino Elections creates.
Postscript: It is the hardest, at least for me, to pen my observations about general issues. But then here they are in front of my face that are just too irresistable to let go. I usually voice out my reflections, but now hey, I’ve remembered I have a blog!
